Northern Lights Pocket Fluorite, River Catcher Vein, Diana Maria Mine, County Durham, England, UK (2023-NL9)

SGD 943.00
Only 1 available

80 x 69 x 31mm

Lots of big cubes with open faces, digital growths on the surface, and druzy, sugar quartz. The edges on ost of the fluorite cubes are perfectly preserved.

Round the back, the imprint left from where the fluorite was disconnected from the quartz matrix is clearly visible.

-----

While extracting this pocket (situated on the River Catcher Vein) in September 2023, the night skies above northern England were lit by magnificent displays of the Aurora Borealis. In recognition of the perfect coincidental colors and timing, this pocket was named the Northern Lights.

Fluorite crystals occur as singles and twins with occasional crystallized galena and rarely as octahedral crystals. Color zoning characteristically shifts from oily apple green edges to citrus lemon bodies, with inner nebulous cores containing hints of burnt sienna.

Occasional faces are dusted with wispy patches of micro-sucrosic quartz, and in daylight the cubes naturally fluoresce deep blue/purple at their corners.

For every $15 spent, we will plant 1 tree to offset the carbon cost of mining, shipping and packaging crystals.
