Honey Bear Pocket Fluorite [River Catcher Vein, Diana Maria Mine, County Durham, England, UK] (2310HB-6)
79 x 62 x 33mm
Large, interpenetrating cubes of smokey, buttery honey gold.
-----
A very small cavity, now named the Honey Bear Pocket, was discovered during June 2023 in the River Catcher Vein, just a few metres before its intersection with the Greenbank vein in the Diana Maria mine.
Twinned cubic Fluorite cyrstals of deep, smokey honey yellow, averaging 2 to 3cm on edge lined the pocket, with exceptional crystals to over 5cm.
The corners and edges are semi-transparent, grading towards translucent straw yellow face centres and mottled interiors. Calcite is occasionally present and some smaller Fluorite crystals are golden syrup to lemon yellow.
Under SWUV, the Fluorite fluoresces bright indigo and lavender.
