Northern Lights Pocket Fluorite, River Catcher Vein, Diana Maria Mine, County Durham, England, UK (2023-NL12)

Only 1 available

49 x 61 x 24mm

A double-sided specimen wit lots of clear cubes. The demarcation between the green edges and the yellow core is classic of the Northern Lights Pocket. Turn it over and it has unexpected yellow fluorites on the bottom of it. It is also generously studded with galena nodules, like a well-decorated Christmas tree.

-----

While extracting this pocket (situated on the River Catcher Vein) in September 2023, the night skies above northern England were lit by magnificent displays of the Aurora Borealis. In recognition of the perfect coincidental colors and timing, this pocket was named the Northern Lights.

Fluorite crystals occur as singles and twins with occasional crystallized galena and rarely as octahedral crystals. Color zoning characteristically shifts from oily apple green edges to citrus lemon bodies, with inner nebulous cores containing hints of burnt sienna.

Occasional faces are dusted with wispy patches of micro-sucrosic quartz, and in daylight the cubes naturally fluoresce deep blue/purple at their corners.

For every $15 spent, we will plant 1 tree to offset the carbon cost of mining, shipping and packaging crystals.
