Boulangerite with Arsenopyrite (Trepča Stari Trg Mine, Trepča complex, Mitrovica, Mitrovica District, Kosovo)
Of all the sources of boulangerite in the world, this locality is considered the world-class source for this mineral.
Boulangerite is an uncommon lead antimony sulfide that forms as fine acicular crystals that appear as woven, hair-like fibres. Initially considered really rare, it is now classified as uncommon because numerous ore deposits have been found.
Round the back of the specimen is arsenopyrite, an iron arsenic sulfide. Arsenopyrite in itself is valuable because arsenic is relatively rare in the Earth's crust. But, miners often value it for more than its arsenic content because it is often found with gold!
NOTE: please do not put this in a sunny area in your room - it will release sulfur and arsenic vapour. Put it in a shaded area, away from the window, and it'll be fine.
