Golden Brown Epidot (Afghanistan) (2310-GBEPI-AFG1)
74 carats, 29 x 29 x 19mm
A secondary crystal, Epidot is only formed after another mineral is formed, and only when the absolute right conditions occur.
They tend to come about as a product of hydrothermal alteration of various minerals including feldspars, micas, garnets, etc.
Epidote usually ranges between yellowish-green to pistachio green. Less often is it brownish green (like this specimen) or black.
If allowed to crystallise fully, it becomes translucent with a vitreous luster. Just like this specimen!
